SEADAC's Prevention Programs have focus on education and life-skills-building, which promote healthy behaviors and coping mechanisms in youth so they can choose to live drug-free, productive lifestyles . In fiscal year 2005, SEADAC served 2,056 unduplicated youth by going to schools, community groups, churches, parks, and wherever youth congregated. SEADAC maintains three programming components to achieve its goals.

SEADAC's After School and Summer Programs provide alternative activities and positive life experiences for community youth. This creates an environment to develop positive social and academic skills, a learning environment focused on a drug-free lifestyle and how to maintain it, and develop healthy relationships.

This program, also, provides classroom and community education on substance abuse. Students are taught behaviors to resist the temptation to use drugs. Several elementary schools and high schools within SEADAC's primary service area are targeted to provide a series of educational sessions focused on education about the harm and consequences of drug use, as well as, teaching resistance techniques when confronted with a drug using opportunity.

In FY 2002 SEADAC received a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services, Bureau of Substance Abuse Prevention, to develop a comprehensive substance abuse prevention program in the South Chicago, East Side, and Hegewisch community areas. Through this funding source SEADAC, in conjunction with the affected communities, were to select a science based prevention program to be implemented in the targeted community areas. The "All-Stars" program was selected. Its implementation was started in March 2003. The first group of graduates occurred in the middle of June 2003.
